Report: Royals agree to 2-year deal with Jason Hammel

Jason Hammel is finally off the market.

The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a two-year contract with the right hander, a source told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. There is a mutual option for a third year and the deal is pending a physical, Rosenthal adds.

Hammel won 15 games for the Chicago Cubs last season, posting a 3.83 ERA in 30 starts. The 34-year-old will reportedly earn at least $16 million from the contract.

The Royals were desperate to add to their rotation after Edinson Volquez left in free agency for the Miami Marlins and Yordano Ventura died tragically in a January car accident.

Along with Danny Duffy and Ian Kennedy, Hammel gives Kansas City another arm with plenty of starting experience.
