Canada loses Davis Cup match after Shapovalov hits ball off umpire’s face

Denis Shapovalov let his emotions get the best of him Sunday.

The Canadian was taking on Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund in the deciding match of their Davis Cup showdown when he smashed a ball in frustration, accidentally hitting the chair umpire in the face.

Despite his pleas, Shapovalov was forced to default the match because of the outburst and Great Britain was handed an easy victory.

The 17-year-old, who was the runner-up at the Wimbledon juniors last summer, apologized for his actions following the match.
